UK and Irish Airports from the 1950s to the 1970s

UK and Irish Airports from the 1950s to the 1970s : £17.95 : 60 minutes

Now in stock at airspotters.com
We start with some wonderful film taken at Blackbushe in 1959; Falcon, Continental, Orion, Pegasus and Eagle Vikings, Dan Air Yorks, Bristol Freighters and Ambassadors and lots more, all in colour, as is the rest of this DVD, of course.

Then we’re off to look at many UK Airports, 12 in all, plus Dublin and Shannon, during the next couple of decades. Among the regional airports are Liverpool with British Eagle DC4s and arrivals at Cardiff for a Rugby match that include a Catair Super Connie and a Trans-Union DC6.

Heathrow’s not forgotten; there’s a fascinating visit to BOAC’s maintenance hangar with 707s, Comets, DC7C, Britannia and VC10. Remember BOAC’s only CL44? It’s here too.

Two trips to Southend reveal lots of Carvairs, BAF Heralds, BMA Viscount, etc. Prestwick has a good mix of sixties jetliners and military types, refuelling before making their Atlantic crossings.

707s and DC8s are seen at Manchester too, along with a BOAC 747 and an Aer Turas DC7. Luton has Britannias of course and more 707s.

Fancy a seat on the flightdeck of a BEA Airtours Comet or a trip in a Transglobe Britannia? No problem, they’re just part of two visits we make to Gatwick.

Right at the end, we have a quick look at Shannon and Dublin in the 1980s with Aer Turas DC8 and CL44, Ryanair 748 and 1-11s and more!

Hobbymaster B.O.A.C. Douglas DC-7C G-AOIB 1957 Scale 1/200 HL7003

This model is something a bit special

The DC-7 was the last major piston engine powered transport made by the Douglas
Aircraft Company. The DC-7 was produced from 1953 to 1958 when the first jet
passenger aircraft arrived on the scene. The DC-7 was the first airliner to provide non-
stop service from coast to coast in America. In total there were 338 DC-7’s produced and
purchased by 18 different airlines. When the jets replaced the DC-7 they found new work
as cargo planes and charter work.

From 1939 until 1974 British Overseas Airways Corporation (BOAC) was the British state
airline. In 1974 BOAC merged with British European Airways Corporation to become
British Airways. BOAC operated 10 DC-7C “Seven Seas” they had purchased because of
the delay manufacturing the Bristol Britannia. One DC-7C was G-AOIB c/n 45112 that the
airline operated from November 1956 until March 1964 when it was sold. The airframe
went on to become N90802 with the tour company “Jolly Voyager” and later was
converted into a water-bomber EC-888 and later EC-GGB with Basaer.

Project: Cutaway is the latest line of products from Dragon Models Ltd. that allows you to see man made marvels from a different point of view! Developed using our expertise in creating the finest plastic moulds, these educational replicas don't just show you what you can see on the outside, but we also take you inside! Represented in true to scale accuracy and a high level of detail, it's as close to walking inside the real thing as you can get!

One of the best-known aircraft of the current day is Air Force One, the name given to two Boeing 747s designed to carry the US president. The call sign “Air Force One” can in actual fact refer to any aircraft that has the president aboard, but the term is often used synonymously for this specific pair of planes. The first dedicated presidential aircraft was a C-54 Skymaster, a long way from the two sophisticated Boeing 747-200B aircraft that have been used in the USA since 1990. These customized aircraft are known as the Boeing VC-25A, with all sorts of classified command and communication equipment installed inside. In a war scenario, the president could stay aloft and maintain secure communications with his forces and governmental apparatus. The two VC-25As are operated by the 89th Airlift Wing at Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland.

Dragon continues Project Cutaway with an exciting new 1/144 scale model of Air Force One. The cross-sectional nature of this model reveals much of the interior of this highly classified aircraft. The cabin has a new layout in keeping with its specialized function, quite different to the first item Braniff 747-100 cutaway model. Even the wings and engines, as well as the fuselage, receive the fascinating cutaway treatment! It’s not easy to see, let alone get aboard, these US presidential aircraft, but now collectors can keep their own personal Air Force One on their desks!
